Don't force people to wear helmet: AIADMK tells Pondy admn
Puducherry, Jun 30: Puducherry AIADMK State Secretary A Anbazhagan, MLA, urged the Union administration not to force two wheeler riders to wear a helmet.
In a statement here, Mr Anbazhagan charged that the administration had failed to take steps to rectify traffic congestion here. If this continues, no one can ride a vehicle through Puducherry town.
Without taking any steps to rectify this, the traffic department was trying to force the two wheeler riders to wear helmets, This is ''irresponsible'', he charged.
He said during the last session of the territorial Assembly, Chief Minister N Rangasamy had announced that there was no need to make helmets compulsory as no one could drive at a speed of more than 20 KMPH in the city.
Instead, the government should educate the people about the need to wear helmet for their safety, he added.
