NCC activities to be spread in rural, coastal areas

Ahmedabad, Jun 27 (UNI) More units of National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be established in rural and coastal areas of country, to increase awareness of NCC among the youth of these areas.

Director General NCC Lt Gen Prakash S Chaudhary announced this while speaking to mediapersons here today. ''We are establishing more units in rural and coastal areas. Gujarat has the longest coastal line in the country and NCC wants to spread its activities in these areas, with an understanding that youngsters, particularly, children of fishermen, are comfortable with water and can adapt to marine activities efficiently and naturally,'' he said.

Women cadets of NCC have been alloted 20 per cent reservation in the Officers Training Academy, Chennai, Lt Gen Chaudhary said.

Moreover, a provision to induct NCC cadets directly into the National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, is being considered, he added.

Earlier, Lt Gen Chaudhary called on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar and discussed various aspects of NCC activity in the state.
