DAN candidate Khekiho wins Rajya Sabha seat

Kohima, Jun 26 (UNI) Former Industry Minister and consensus DAN candidate Khekiho Zhimomi was today declared elected for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Nagaland.

The Rajya Sabha election was held at the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat, where all the 60 members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly cast their votes.

The voters included Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie and Parliamentary Secretaries.

Mr Khekiho Zhimomi polled all the 36 votes of the DAN alliance and his lone rival Congress candidate Kewekhape Therie got 24 votes, 23 from Congress and one from neutral Independent momber.

The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant following the resignation of sitting Member T R Zeliang, who was elected to the Nagaland Assembly and subsequently appointed as Minister of Planning and Coordination, Evaluation, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Parliamentary Affairs.
