Malaysian court to take up Hindraf leaders' release petition on July 21
Ipoh (Malaysia), June 24 : A Malaysian High Court has fixed July 21 as the next date of hearing of the habeas corpus application filed by one Karpal Singh for the release of five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders.
The application filed on May 30 will be heard before judicial commissioner Ridwan Ibrahim. The date was fixed in his chambers yesterday, reported the nstonline.com.
The five Hindraf detained lawyers are R. Kengadharan (41), M. Manoharan (47), V. Ganabatirau (35), P. Uthayakumar (47), and Hindraf co-ordinator K. Vasantha Kumar (35).
They are being detained under the Internal Security Act at the Kamunting detention centre.
Karpal is challenging the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decision to extend their detention on the ground that it was "procedurally fatally flawed".
