Indo-Pak anti-terror mechanism meet today

Islamabad, June 24 : Officials of India and Pakistan will meet here today to discuss the counter terrorism strategies in the third anti-terror mechanism meeting.

The Indian delegation is led by Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Vivek Katju and the Pakistan side by Masood Khalid.

The progress in the investigations of explosions in the Jaipur, Ajmer and Hyderabad will come up during for discussion.

There are expected to have discussion on the findings of Samjhauta Express blasts.

The meeting assumes significance as it is being held three days ahead of the foreign ministers meeting.

The meeting is being held for the third time after it was set up in line with a decision taken during a meeting between President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on the margins of the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Havana in September 2006.

With the leadership in both the countries keen to take the peace process forward, the meeting is likely to take certain solid decisions in the wake of recent incidents of infiltration on the LOC and resurgence of Taliban in Afghanistan and its impact in Pakistan.
