EC declares RJD national party

Patna, Jun 24 (UNI) After long assessment,the Election Commission(EC) today declared the RJD as a national party in the country.

Chief Election Commissioner N.Gopalswami made the announcement here during his day-long visit to the state.

EC office sources said here that the RJD had been declared as national party as it fulfilled the norms laid by the Commission according to which the political out fit enjoying at least 6 per cent of the votes at national level could be branded as the national organisation.

The sources said after reviewing the percentage of the votes enjoyed by the RJD, the decision to declared it as a national party was taken.

The sources disclosed that the Commission had already communicated RJD chief Lalu Prasad about its decision. It was found that the RJD which was recognised as state party in Bihar, Jharkhand and Manipur has fulfilled the conditions for recognition as national party on the basis of its poll performance in Nagaland and hence the Commission decided to recognise it as a national party, sources said.
