BEST employees get hike in Dearness Allowance

Mumbai, June 24 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) of its staff, ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,400, as per their salary.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, BEST General Manager Uttam Khobragade said the DA has been increased, keeping in mind the demand of the employees. He said an employee earning a basic of Rs 4,200, will get a DA of Rs 500 and an employee earning Rs 7,000, will get a DA of Rs 1,400.

''We had planned to spend Rs 207 crore in three years for the DA, of which Rs 118 crore have been already spent, while the remaining Rs 89 crore will be spent in the coming months,'' Mr Khobragade said.

On the issue of insurance of the commuters, the BEST GM said that the undertaking will accumulate funds for the same and will not have tie-up with any insurance company.
