Lankan fishermen remanded to judicial custody
Ramanathapuram, Jun 23 (UNI) The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court here today remanded 28 Sri Lankan fishermen, who were arrested on the charge of trespassing into Indian territorial waters, to 15 days judicial custody.
Coast Guard (CG) patrol vessel Saagar detained the fishermen along with their six mechanised trawlers for ''trespassing'' into Indian territorial waters off Kanyakumari coast on June 20. The CG, later, handed over the fishermen to the Thermal Police at Tuticorin.
After interrogation by the Intelligence agencies and local police, they were remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Madurai Central Prison.
