Acharya named House leader in K'taka Council
Bangalore, Jun 23 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister V S Acharya was today appointed the House leader in the Legislative Council.
Immediately after the House assembled for a four-day session, Council Chairman B K Chandrashekhar announced that as per the recommendations of the state government, he recognised Dr Acharya as the new House leader in the Council.
The Chairman also announced recognition of senior Congress member Veeranna Mathikatti as the main Leader of the Opposition in the Council till the session is over. ''KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge has sent a letter in this regard to the Chair,'' he added.
Later, the House adopted a condolence motion for the departed leaders, including former Chief Minister S R Bommai, former Union Minister Basavarajeshwari, former Lok Sabha member Channaiah Wodeyar, Former Legislators Kariyanna Gowda and Saritha Kumar Desai and sitting member Blasius M D'Souza.
The House also condoled the death of farmers, who were killed in police firing.
Prof Chandrasekhar adjourned the House for tomorrow.
