Islamabad, Jun 21 (UNI) The Pakistan government today made a plea to commute the death sentence of Indian prisoners Sarabjit Singh and Kirpal Singh into life imprisonment.

The plea was made in a speech by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani while he was addressing the National Assembly to commemorate the 55th birthday of Benazir Bhutto.

Mr Gilani made the request to President Pervez Musharraf to commute the death sentence.

''The Interior Ministry will be asked to move a summary to the President to commute the sentence of those on a death row to life imprisonment, besides giving remission of 90 days to the prisoners,'' he said.

The remission will not apply to those involved in heinous crimes, Mr Gilani added.
