Raj accords 14 pc reservstion to poor in higher castes
Jaipur, Jun 18 (UNI) The Rajasthan Government has decided to accord 14 per cent reservation to economically backward strata in higher caste like Brahmins, Rajputs, Baniyas and Kayastha.
This reservation is being accorded on the basis of interim report submitted by Rajasthan State Economically Backward Classes Commission constituted under the Chairmanship of Justice S K Sharma, State Chief Minsiter Vasundhara Raje said here today.
The commission submitted its interim report to the government today itself, she said.
Ms Raje told mediapersons that detailed modalities and related implementation procedure will be announced after the state cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Rajasthan has become the first state to take such a decision, the Chief Minister added.
Earlier, the previous Ashok Gejlot Government had also recommended to the Centre, the same quantom of reservation to poor people of higher castes.
The states are empowered under article 16(4) of the constitution, to accord such reservation, an Official Spokesman added.
