Haryana to plant 5.5 cr saplings

Chandigarh, Jun 17 (UNI) The Haryana Forests Department would plant 5.50 crore saplings and has targeted to cover an area of 19,325 hectares across the state in the current financial year.

State Minister for Forests and Environment Kiran Choudhry said that about 2.60 crore plants would be distributed free of cost to farmers, institutions, Panchayats and various government departments.

Besides, about two crore plants would be used for afforestation by the Department, she added.

Ms Choudhry said the nurseries were well stocked with plants and the distribution of different species of plants would be made as per the requirements of the plantation and farmers.

She said the department had targeted to cover 19325 hectares of total land in which 8325 hectares would be covered under the JBIC project, 9000 hectares under state scheme and 2000 hectares under the schemes of Forest Development Agencies.
