Man washed away, 15 houses damaged in rain

Mangalore, Jun 13 (UNI) A 30-year-old man was washed away in a canal, while 15 houses were damaged in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts of Karnataka which has been experiencing heavy rains during last one week.

The youth carrying a head load of rubber sheets died when he tried to cross the overflowing canal in Sullya. Ten houses were damaged in Dakshina Kannada while five houses were damaged at Udupi District in rain today.

According to official sources, heavy rains and gusty winds during the last two days damaged several houses in Padubidre, besides uprooting over 50 trees.

A building housing a mobile shop was damaged when lightning struck it in Karkala last night. Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
