One killed, three injured in monsoon rains
Udupi, Jun 12 (UNI) A 65-year-old man drowned and three others were injured today in two incidents in the wake of heavy monsoon rains lashing coastal districts of Karnataka.
The person was killed when he slipped and fell into the sea at Maravanthe beach in Kundapur Taluk, while three others were injured when a tree fell on their house at Athikaribettu near Mulky in Dakshina Kannada.
The injured were admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore.
Meanwhile, the sea erosion had become severe at Kodibengre in Udupi Taluk. Huge boulders dumped for stopping sea erosion have been washed away.
Sea erosion continued in other places like Ullal, Someshwar, Moolur and Polipu.
People in Surathkal were worried as a newly constructed over bridge in the National Highway at NITK had become weak possibly due to sub standard work.
Panambur received 16 cm rain, while Bantwal and Bajpe received 14 cm each and Mulki received 13 cm, during the last 24 hours.
