3 killed, 50 injured in IPCL plant blast
Mumbai, Jun 6 (UNI) Three people were killed and at least 50 injured in a fire which broke out today in one of the units of Reliance Industries Ltd-owned Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd (IPCL) plant at Nagothane in Raigad district.
Earlier, company sources had put the number of deaths at four but later changed the figure to three.
The incident, which occurred at about 1120 hrs in the linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) unit, has caused three deaths, the company sources confirmed to UNI.
Raigad police control room sources said the blast occurred when maintenance work was being carried out in the plant.
Some of the injured have been admitted to the Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital at Khalapur, while the others have been shifted to a Mumbai hospital.
The plant was shut down yesterday for routine maintenance, the sources said.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished within minutes of the incident, the sources said, adding that the rest of the units in the plant are operating normally.
