UAE donates 50 million dollars for China's quake-hit victims
Dubai, Jun 5 (UNI) The UAE has donated 50 million dollar aid to China for the victims of the earthquake in its Sichuan province.
This is the largest donation given to China from any country, according to an official from the Chinese diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.
Li Lingbin, counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in the country, said the 50 million dollar donation given to the people of China by President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, comes at a time of utmost need in China, where six million buildings collapsed leaving millions without shelter.
"The Chinese government is very grateful for this generous offer, which is the highest donation given to China and is matched only by another 50 million dollars from Saudi Arabia," she told Khaleej Times.
"The most important need in China is providing immediate shelter and working to rebuild the damaged infrastructure. There is a continuous need for international aid, as the shelter crisis will not be solved overnight. It will take anywhere from two to six years," she said.
