Kharge recognised as Opposition leader in K'taka Assembly
Bangalore, June 5 (UNI) Newly elected Karnataka Assembly Speaker Jagdish Shettar today announced that the main opposition Congress' leader in the House Mallikarjuna Kharge has been recognised as Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.
Making the announcement in the House, he said he had received a letter from the KPCC, informing him about the decision of the Congress Legislature Party, electing him as its party leader.
Mr Kharge was recognised as the Leader of the Opposition as he headed the 80-member Congress Legislature Party.
The Speaker also announced that Mr G N Jivaraj, a BJP member, was appointed as the Government Chief Whip in the Assembly.
''Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had written a letter to me, informing about Mr Jivaraj's appointment,'' he said.
