Hafed procures 37 per cent of wheat procured by govt agencies
Chandigarh, Jun 5 (UNI) Hafed has surpassed its wheat procurement target of 35 per cent by procuring 19.30 lakh metric tonnes of wheat which accounts for 37 per cent of the total of 59.19 lakh metric tonnes of wheat procured by the government agencies in the state during Rabi-2008.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of Hafed said that out of total procurement of 19.30 lakh metric tonnes of wheat, 4.84 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was delivered to FCI direct from the mandis upto May 28 and remaining wheat stocks had been stored in the godowns/open plinth, which had been fully covered with the polythene covers.
He said that keeping in view the quantum of procurement of wheat, fresh orders of 3,000 polythene covers was placed during the year so as to cover properly whole wheat stocks stored in open on plinths. Hafed had also got sufficient stock of fumigants to save the wheat stock from the incidence of pests, he added.
