Chandigarh for promoting environment friendly tourism

Chandigarh, Jun 5 (UNI) On the occasion of World Environment Day, Chandigarh Tourism department stressed the need for interaction in tourism industry to realise their responsibility towards environment.

The department today organised a conference-cum-interactive session on 'Responsible Tourism' in association with EonEcon Foundation to promote consciousness about social, economic and environmental responsibility of tourism and hotel industry and how it could be cost-effective.

The conference was attended by the hoteliers, tour operators and the representatives of hotel management institutes of the city.

Tourism Director Vivek Atray in his introductory address highlighted the need of interaction in tourism industry to realise their responsibility towards environment.

"Tourism industry is the most visible and most employment generating industry in the world. Thus, industry should think upon what it can do towards protecting the environment," he said.

Mr Atray also emphasised upon the adoption of little things which contribute a lot in responsible tourism.
