Dogmatism will not come in way of SSCP: Pranab
Chennai, Jun 3 (UNI) External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee tonight assured Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that dogmatism would not come in the way of implementing the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project (SSCP).
Speaking at a public meeting, organised by the ruling DMK to felicitate Mr Karunanidhi on his 85th birthday, he said, ''We are aware of the pain being suffered by you about your dream not being fulfilled.'' Referring to a poem penned by Mr Karunanidhi, who pleaded for implementation of the project even by naming it after Lord Ram to assuage the feelings of those opposing it, Mr Pranab said the Chief Minister had carried on a major movement of social reforms all through his political career which had fulfilled several dreams.
''We are aware of your pain and one dream - the sethu project - being not fulfilled. Let us strive to see that dogmatism did not come in the way of fulfilling your dream,'' Mr Mukherjee said and read out a letter written by AICC president Sonia Gandhi to Mr Karunanidhi greeting him on his birthday.
