Bomb blast in Imphal hospital

Imphal, May 26 (UNI) Suspected militants triggered a blast at the Pathology department of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here last night, police said today.

However, no one was injured in the blast.

As a sign of protest the OPD, casualty and operation theatre of RIMS were closed down today.

Works Minister K Ranjit, Education Minister L Jayentakumar along with Superintendent of Police L Kailun have inspected the blast site. RIMS superintendent Y Mohen while condemning the attack on a hospital said it was an act of terrorism.

''This has created a fear among the patients and many had to return untreated following the incident,'' he said.

Police suspects involvement of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) but investigation was on to unearth the truth.

The bomb splinters and other materials have been collected for a further investigation, the police added.
