Fisherman retrieves wooden idol from Bay of Bengal

Kendrapada, May 23 (UNI)Thousands of devotees thronged the Jagannath temple at Tantiapala market under Rajnagar block to have a glimpse of a two- feet high wooden idol of Lord Baladevjew retrieved by a local fisherman from water of the Bay of Bengal near Barunei mouth.

Subash Jena of Tantiapala yesterday went to the sea to catch fish in his country boat. When he reached the Barueni mouth, he saw the wooden idol of Lord Baladevjew floating.

The fisherman retrieved the idol from the water.He then brought the matter to the notice of his family members and soon the news spread like wildfire in the nearby areas.

Later, thousands of devotees thronged to his village and took the wooden idol and kept it inside the local Jagannath temple.

According to Tantiapala Jagannath temple priest Bibhuti Bhusan Mishra, they will soon visit Puri to consult the pandits of Jagannath temple on the installation of the wooden idol.
