25 injured in post-poll clash in North 24 Parganas
Barasat, May 23 (UNI) At least 25 people were injured, some of them seriously, including a few policemen, in a post-poll clash between rival political activists in different parts of North 24 Parganas overnight.
Police here today said seven people were arrested from Bagdah area following such a clash, where police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress activists engaged in violent clashes.
The clash took place in the bordering village of Musthafapur under Boira Panchayet.
A few police vehicles were also damaged as the warring groups threw stones on police party in which the Officer-in-charge of Bagdha police station was injured.
Allegations and counter allegations were reported from both parties accusing each other of creating trouble.
Similar clashes also took place at Chak Jhaudanga under Gaighata police station and at Hingal Ganj and Swarupnagar police station area in Basirhat sub-division.
A CPI(M) local committee member of Hingalgunj was seriously injured during a clash with Trinamool Congress workers last night and later admitted to Basirhat Sub-divisional Hospital. A Congress activist was injured allegedly by CPI(M) supporters and was admitted to hospital.
