Jawan handed 2-year imprisonment, dismissed for rape attempt
Imphal, May 22 (UNI) An Assam Rifles jawan has been sentenced to two-year imprisonment and subsequently dismissed from service for attempting to rape a girl in Manipur last year.
Assam Rifles sources said Rifleman Namthuipou Gangmei attempted to rape the girl in March 2007 during which he also hit her with a stone.
A Staff Court of Inquiry was instituted by Headquarters 9 Sector of Assam Rifles, which found Gangmei guilty, they added.
