Alternatives to auction of river sand should be found: CM

Mumbai, May 22 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today stressed on the need to find out an alternative to the auction of river sand that is adversely affecting the flow of rivers.

Earlier, Veteran social activist Anna Hazare held a meeting with the Chief Minister on this issue.

Mr Deshmukh said in place of going for auction of river sand, for making a revenue of few crores, alternatives like use of sea sand and making sand from stones should also be tested.

He assured that action will be taken against corrupt practices and other issues raised by Mr Hazare.

Meanwhile, Mr Hazare, himself a right to information activist, released a book published by information and public relations department, titled 'Right to information'.
