Local body representatives to meet President, PM, Sonia
Puducherry, May 20 (UNI) The elected local body representatives from Puducherry will meet the President, Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson in New Delhi to press for the devolution of powers to them.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held under the Chairmanship of PMK Parliamentary party leader M Ramadass here today.
Taking strong exception to the failure of the administration to devolve powers to them, even after 20 months of the elections, the meeting resolved to intially meet all the Ministers and Chief Secretary of the territorial administration under the leadership of Prof Ramadass. It had also decided to organise agitations to mobilise people's support if the meeting with the Ministers and Chief Secrertary proved futile.
As the last phase they would meet the President, Prime Minsiter and Sonia Gandhi, a release issued by the Federation of elected local body repesentatives associations said here today.
