Jamaat chief Nizami arrested by Bangladesh police
Dhaka, May 18 (UNI) Bangladesh police tonight arrested Jamaat-e-Islami chief and former Industry Minister Matiur Rahman Nizami from his residence in the capital in a graft case.
Earlier, two former Cabinet Ministers of the immediate past BNP-led alliance government, Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and Shamsul Islam were sent to Dhaka Central Jail after they surrendered before the court.
Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and her son Koko were arrested in September last year in the same case of alleged underhand deal of Tk 14.56 crore for giving container handling contract to a private GATCO company while she was in power.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case accusing 22 persons including ex-PM Ms Zia and her five former Cabinet colleagues.
