ECR to generate revenue from new avenues of advertisement
Patna, May 14 (UNI) The Danapur rail division under East Central Railway (ECR) has given green signal to the advertisers for putting commercial hoardings on railway stations and trains.
Official sources said here today that the revenue generated from advertisements were Rs 1.11 crores during 2007-08 and another Rs 1.55 crores is expected in the current fiscal.
The sources further said that they would allow advertisers to make the use of coaches of day mail and express trains for the purpose.
Advertisements by private companies were being displayed at 43 out of 87 railway stations of the Danapur division.
The advertisements could be placed outside as well as inside the coaches through vinyl wrapping to use maximum space for the purpose, sources said adding the railways would take up about 100 trains in the first phase to execute the idea.
The ECR has also floated tenders for advertisements on railway tickets by increasing the size of the ticket for multi-colour advertisements which would be available from the next month, sources said.
The strategy would help in generating more revenue for the railways as well as better railway services to the passengers.
