TN confirms missing of 17 fishermen
Rameswaram Island, Tamil Nadu, May 13 (UNI) As many as 17 fishermen, who ventured into the sea for fishing on May five, were reportedly missing, according to a senior official of the State Fisheries Department here today.
He said the fishermen, hailing from Maanthoppu area in Thangachimadam coastal hamlet, had not returned till this date, causing anxious moments to the fishing folk in the island town.
On a complaint from the family members of the missing fishermen, the Fisheries Department had alerted the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and sought their assistance to trace them, he said.
It was not known immediately whether the Sri Lankan Navy had arrested them or they were stranded in the sea due to rough weather, he added.
