Bangladesh launch capsize death toll reaches 42
Dhaka, May 13 (UNI) The death toll from yesterday's launch capsize in Kishoreganj district of north-east Bangladesh has risen to 42 with recovery of 38 more bodies this morning.
The launch MV Chandpur with more than 150 passengers on board was caught in a storm and capsized in Ghorautra River in Nikli sub-district yesterday afternoon.
The divers of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and fire brigade began work at first light this morning and found 38 more bodies, The Daily Star reported.
The death toll may rise, as a number of people still remained missing.
The Methmoin-bound launch from Kuliarchar was caught in a nor'wester at around 1700 hrs (local time) yesterday near Singpur of the upazila and sank in the river.
Soon after the accident, four bodies were retrieved yesterday.
