BSP to amend Constitution if it comes to power at Centre:Mayavati

Chitradurga, May 12 (UNI) If Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) comes to power at the Centre, the Constitution will be suitably amended to extend the benefit of reservation to poor among the upper caste, BSP Supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayavati said today.

Addressing an election campaign at Chitradurga here, Ms Mayavati charged the UPA government with ignoring her repeated pleas to accommodate poor among the upper caste under reservation.

Charging that all other political parties had indulged in smear campaign against BSP that it was against upper castes, she said the status of those belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribe, other Backward Castes and poorer sections of upper caste was unchanged even after 60 years of independence.

She alleged that successive governments which came to power both at the Centre and the states had only protected the interests of affluent sections of the society and industrialists after securing votes of the people.

Ms Mayavati also accused the UPA of ignoring her appeal to include both dalit Christians and minorities under constitutional reservation.
