Action on illegal sand mining in TN
Tiruchirapalli, May 9 (UNI) The police have taken into custody 225 persons and seized an equal number of vehicles and bullock carts in Tiruchirapalli, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam Districts of Tamil Nadu in the last few days to check illegal quarrying of sand.
Police said, special police teams, which conducted surveillance in and around banks of the rivers in these districts, booked as many as 225 cases.
A fine amounting to Rs 50,000 was collected from 220 offenders, following which the vehicles were released,police added.
