NGOs, vets roped in to check stray dog menace

Chandigarh, May 6 (UNI) Concerned over the alarming increase in stray dogs population, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided to rope in private vets along with NGOs for conducting sterilisation operations.

According to the MCC Spokesman, two NGOs -- Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and People for Animals -- have been helping out the authorites but as they also had limited capacity to conduct such operations, the Corporation had selected three entrepreneurs who have offered their services to conduct sterilization operations.

They will conduct operations upon 10 dogs per unit per day and had developed the requisite infrastructure for conducting operations and post-operative care for 70 dogs at a time.

The Corporation will start supplying stray dogs to the selected entreprising vets by next week.
