CBI files interim chargesheet against 9 in kidney racket

Ambala, Apr 29 (UNI) The CBI filed interim chargesheet against nine accused including the kingpin Dr Amit Kumar in the infamous kidney scam case in the special CBI court here today.

The nine accused included Dr Amit, Dr Upinder, Dr Jiwan all surgeons, Dr K.K.

Aggarwal and Dr Saraj anatheoists, nurse Linda, Lab assistant Manoj Gyassudin and Jagdish.

The CBI filed the complaint under Organ Transplant Act 1994. The complaint alleged that the accused used to lure the innocent people and took them to the hospital at Gurgaon and other places where their organs including kidneys were removed.

The removed kidneys were sold at higher prices to the needy people including persons from abroad and were transplanted at inflated rates.

The Chargesheet was submitted to the special CBI court by the CBI Prosecutor A.K. Singh. The interim chargesheet was submitted in the wake of expiry of 90 days of filing the case with the court.

Had it not been filed today, the accused would have been released on bail.

The court fixed May 9 for further hearing in the case when the CBI proposes to file regular charge sheet.

However, the counsel for the accused pleaded that the prescribed period of 90 days had elapsed since three accused Dr Upinder, Gyassudin and Jagdish were arrested on January 24, hence their bail application should be entertained and bail granted.

The special CBI Magistrate Dr Abdul Majid after hearing the arguments, ordered that records with regard to their arrest at Muradabad with copy of FIR should be submitted on May 1 fixed for hearing the bail application of the three accused.

Another accused Puja wife of Dr Upinder who is already on interim bail today withdrew her application for regular bail since the hearing of her case is to come up on May 7.
