Airtel slashes STD rate to Rs 1.50, roaming to Re 1
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) Bharti Airtel Ltd, the country's leading telecom services provider, today slashed its tariff to a new low of Rs 1.50 from Rs 2.60 per minute for long distance calls, while on roaming incoming and outgoing calls were reduced to Re 1 a minute.
Earlier, the subscriber had to pay Rs 1.75 per minute for incoming roaming calls.
The new tariff, to be effective from April 30, will benefit over 62 million airtel customers.
''This step will change the scenario and will drive growth and usage in the Indian telecom industry,'' Bharti Airtel Ltd President (Mobile Services) Sanjay Kapoor told reporters at a conference here.
He said about seventy per cent customers in the country use less than five minutes a month on STD calls and 80 per cent mobile customers switch off their mobiles while roaming.
