AIFB demands amendment to People's Representation Act
Kolkata, Apr 21 (UNI) Criticising induction of former functionaries of constitutional bodies in political parties and ministries, the All India Forward Bloc has demanded an amendment to the People's Representation Act.
Referring to the induction of former Chief Election Commissioner M S Gill in the Union Cabinet, the party's Central Committee, which concluded a two-day meeting here today, observed that such a practice was " absolutely unacceptable and unethical." " This has almost become a fashion. Such a practice raises questions about one's impartiality and credibility," party General Secretary Debabrata Biswas told reporters.
Mr Biswas also referred to the appointment of Mr T N Chaturvedi, former Comptroller and Auditor General as the Governor of Kerala on a previous occasion.
" The constitutional authorities should always be kept away from politics and political posts. Our party demands that the People's Representation Act be immediately amended," he said.
Reacting to the current situation in Tibet, the Central Committee urged the Chinese Government and the Dalai Lama to find an amicable solution to the problem and ensure peace and equitable development in the region.
It, however, observed that the current violence raging in Tibet and elsewhere was an attempt to sabotage the China Olympics to be held this year.
