Mandi board to fine agencies failing to lift wheat
Moga, Apr 19 (UNI) Punjab Mandi Board today decided to put a fine of 25 paisa per bag per day, if any agency failed to lift the procured wheat after 72 hours.
The Punjab Mandi Board Chairman, Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, after touring various mandi purchase centers and yards, has directed all the Market Committee district mandi officers to give show cause notices to all the procurement agencies which could not lift the procured wheat even after 72 hours, adding that they must be fined 25 paisa fine per bag per day, Mandi sources said here.
Mr Lakhowal took the stringent step after finding out that almost all the agencies were responsible for not lifting and transporting its procured wheat, resulting in a glut with farmers experiencing inconvenience in unloading their produce.
Mandi Board chairman also directed all the procurement agencies and district mandis to extend their full support in smoothly coordinating the lifting and transportation of the procured wheat crop.
Mr Lakhowal observed that in the view of the arrival of wheat picking up in all the mandis and purchase centers in the State, lifting and transportation were the almost need for the farmers.
