Sivsagar observes bandh to protest priest's killing
Sivsagar, Apr 18 (UNI) The PCPIA sponsored dawn-to-dusk bandh to protest the alleged killing of a namghoria (priest) on April 13, affected life in Assam's Sivsagar district today.
The People's Consultative for Peace Initiative in Assam (PCPIA), a conglomerate of 27 groups, had called the bandh.
Dulen Barua, the namghoria, was allegedly shot dead from point blank range on April 13 in Himparagaon near Mahmara in the district.
He was allegedly killed by surrendered ULFA men in presence of CRPF personnel, who had gone as a joint team in search of ULFA militants.
Business establishments downed shutters in response to the bandh call. However, no untoward incident was reported so far.
The PCPIA had also demanded the resumption of peace talks with the ULFA and enquiry into the killing of Barua.
