Villagers plan to boycott assembly polls
Madikeri, Apr 12, (UNI) The residents of Devarakolly near this town have decided to shut door against politicians during elections and decided to boycott the coming assembly polls for their failure to provide even basic amenities.
A strong group of 400 villagers gathered before a school at Devarakolli yesterday and held a protest shouting 'Devare Nammannu Kolli' meaning, Oh, God kill us.
Teachers, members of the Stree Shakti groups, different organisations and Gram Panchayat members took part in the protest and said that the government and peoples representatives have totally neglected Devarakolly and surrounding villages and failed to provide even basic facilities like roads.
Though the villages are spread on either side of Madikeri - Mangalore Highway, over 400 residents are not given land records so far.
