Illegal Myanmar labourers suffocate to death in Thai container truck

Bangkok, Apr 10 (UNI) At least 54 Myanmar nationals suffocated to death while entering Thailand illegally hidden in a refrigerated freight container late last night.

The dead include 37 women and 17 men with more than 20 others being treated in hospital.

The incident happened in south Thailand while the illegal immigrants were being transported from Thailand's southwestern coastal province of Ranong adjoining Myanmar, to Phuket province further down south where they hoped to find work.

According to reports from Ranong, the Myanmer immigrants were hidden inside a container used for transporting refrigerated fish.
