Clean drinking water for 7 districts of Punjab - Majithia

Amritsar, Apr 8 (UNI) The state government has approved projects for tackling the problem of impure water in 779 habitations, through 588 water schemes spread over Amritsar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Nawan Shahar, Hoshiarpur and Ferozpur districts.

Water Supply and Sanitation and Public Health Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, after laying the foundation stones of 4 water supply schemes at Dhing Nangal, Begewal, Kotla Saidan and Jhande respectively, to be set up at the cost of Rs. 1 crore.

Mr. Majithia also informed that the Centre has released Rs 24.11 crore to provide safe drinking water in 7 districts of Punjab.

"Nearly 7 lakh people are expected to benefit from the scheme," he added.

He said that these funds were the part of the first installment of 45 per cent of the Central Share of Rs 70.77 crore project under the Revised Sub Mission Programme of Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (Quality).

Besides, setting up of main, micro and mini water supply systems, silver ionization plant is being installed with every water supply system to ensure purity of water before its supply.
