AIADMK to stage agitation on Apr 10

Chennai, Apr 8 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK will stage an agitation on April 10 against the Tamil Nadu Government's move to acquire farmlands in Vellore district for setting up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Party General Secretary J Jayalalithaa in a statement here said the agitation, on behalf of the Vellore West district, would be organised in front of Arakkonam Taluk office.

She said the DMK Government, after making a ''false'' promise to give two acres of land free of cost to poor farmers, was acquiring their farmlands for setting up SEZs and technology parks.

Ms Jayalalithaa said in Vellore district, more than 2,000 farmers were holding about 2,500 acres of land and depended on farming for their livelihood.

The people were shocked that the government was making moves to acquire their lands for setting up a SEZ, she said and demanded that the Government drop the move in the interest of farmers.
