Maya directs police not to arrest Tikait
Lucknow, Apr 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today instructed the senior police officials not to arrest Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait for interrogation and let the law take its own coarse.
Talking to mediapersons here this evening, DGP Vikram Singh said ''a clear instruction has been given by the CM not to go above the law in the case related to the BKU leader.'' The DGP also maintained that police will prefer to record the statement of Tikait under section 161 of the CrPC for providing evidence in the Bijnore court.
He denied that no other warrant has been issued against Tikait in any other case.
However, the DGP said a case had been registered yesterday in Muzaffarnagar for violence in Sisauli by BKU activists.
Mr Singh said Police acted patiently on the directives of the higher authorities and only tried to ensure laws rule in the state.
