British monogram to be replaced by 'Satyameva Jayate' in UP
Varanasi, Mar 30 (UNI) A British monogram, which was shining high since 1913 on both the sides of the district court building here was removed and would be replaced by 'Satyameva Jayate'.
The district court building, popularly known as 'Lal building', will soon have 'Satyameva Jayate' monogram in place of the British one.
Lawyers had staged several demonstrations for removal of the English monogram.
In 2003 and 2004, the then district judge wrote a letter to the High court requesting it to initiate orders for the removal of the British symbol. Following which the High court on August 15, 2005 directed the administration to remove the same.
However, the administration accomplished the task yesterday only.
