Dubai, Mar 29 (UNI) An Indian housemaid in Bahrain who duped embassy officials and charity groups into believing she was a victim of abuse, is to be deported to India today.

Bindhu Mohanan, 31, who came to Bahrain on February 27 last year absconded from her sponsor Ahmed Abdulla just after 10 hours of taking the job.

She later approached the Bahrain Pathanapuram Association president Babu Kurumbelil and said she ran away because her sponsor beat her and had not paid her for two months, the Gulf Daily News reported.

Mr Kurumbelil took her case to the Indian Embassy, where a case was filed against her sponsor. The association also highlighted her case when the Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi visited Bahrain last October.

Indian Embassy officials called Mr Abdulla and Bindhu, who hails from Kerela for a meeting with Mr Ravi, Indian ambassador Balkrishna Shetty and officials from Bahrain Pathanapuram Association and Bahrain Punalur Association, at the embassy in December last year.

She repeated her claims at the meeting, but eventually admitted that she ran away because she wanted to work with an Indian family, when her allegetions were proved wrong.

It was agreed between all parties that Bindhu would leave the country, but she failed to turn up at the airport as agreed and had not been seen since then.

She was eventually arrested on February 24 after her sponsor spotted her going to a flat in Gudaibiya, near the Universal Food Centre.
