Revenue official arrested for accepting bribe in Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 25 (UNI) A revenue official was arrested after he was caught red handed accepting bribe by the Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) today.
A spokesman of the VO said one Farooq Ahmad Najar had lodged a written complaint that a junior assistant Bashir Ahmad Peer in the office of naib tehsildar at Watergam, Rafiabad, had demanded a bribe of Rs 2000 for issuing a social caste certificate in his favour.
Mr Nagar had applied for issue of a certificate in the office last year.
However, the accused official demanded Rs 2000 as illegal gratification from him for its processing and issue of the certificate.
A case was registered and officials of the VO laid a successful trap during which Peer was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The tainted money was recovered from his possession in presence of the independent witnesses and his hand wash tested positive.
The relevant file was also recovered from the custody of the accused who has been arrested, he said.
