Justice Shah of Godhra inquiry commission dies in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, Mar 23 (UNI) Retired Bombay High Court Judge K G Shah, who along with Retd Justice G T Navanati, was one of two member panel set up by Gujarat Government to inquire into the post Godhra riots-2002, died here this morning.
Justice Shah was 73. According to legal sources, Justice Shah died during the sleep because of brain haemorrhage at his residence in Bodakdev area of Western Ahmedabad. His body was found this morning. He was living alone here.
Justice Shah is survived by two daughters, both of whom are settled in USA.His wife died last year.
Justice Shah retired from Bombay High Court in 1997.
On March 4, 2002, Gujarat Government instituted one man commission headed by Justice Shah to enquire into the Godhra train burning and the subsequent violence and submit a report in three months. However, following criticism from various organisations, activists and political parties overJustice Shah's alleged proximity to the BJP, on May 22, the government reconstituted the commission, appointing retired Supreme Court Justice G.T. Nanavati to lead the commission.
