Indian swept away by waves at Dubai beach

Dubai, Mar 23 (UNI) An Indian national has drowned at the Jumeirah beach here, the police said.

''The Operations Room of Dubai Police received an alert at around 7 pm (local time) of a 'drowning' incident at Jumeirah open beach on Friday evening,'' police official at the Port Police Station told Khaleej Times.

S Ram, who went to swim with three of his friends was swept away by the high waves and drowned, the police said.

An Indian national told the police that his 30-year-old friend, Mr Ram, who worked for DUTCO, had been swept away by a sudden wave while they were swimming.

The police rescue team launched a search for Mr Ram but after three hours they found his body floating some 70 metres away from the shore.

The body has been sent for forensic examination, the police added.
