Car fell in canal; two die

Eluru, Mar 22 (UNI) In a tragic accident, a software engineer and his wife were drowned when a car in which they were travelling, fell in an irrigation canal at Satyanarayanapuram village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh today.

Police said B Narasimha Reddy (30), working as a software engineer in Bangalore, was driving the car, with his wife Padmaja and five-year-old daughter Rishika, lost control of the vehicle and fell into the canal while the husband and wife drowned their daughter survived.

The victims were on their way to Vizianagaram from Motukuru in Guntur district when the accident occurred.

The couple could not open the car as its doors were locked.

They, however, succeeded in throwing their daughter from the window of the car before they got drowned in the canal.

The nearby villagers on hearing the screams of the child rushed to the spot to rescue the couple, but it was too late.

A police team rushed to the spot and ensured that the child was admitted to Government Hospital here.
