Govt urged to Implement Rangnath Misra panel Report
New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) The Government today faced scathing criticism in the Rajya Sabha over non-implementation of the Rangnath Misra Committee Report which has recommended quota for dalit Muslims and Christians.
The issue was raised in the House during Zero hour by JD(U) Member Ali Anwar and was endorsed by Ms Brinda Karat of the CPI(M).
Mr Anwar said the Committee had sought to undo the injustice and discrimination introduced by the Presidential order of 1950 excluding dalit Muslims and Christians from the benefit available to Schdeduled Castes, otherwise the Constitution did not discriminate on the basis of religion.
Mr Anwar said, ''I want to know from the Government as to why it has given so much publicity to the Sachar Committee Report while keeping quiet over the recommendations of Rangnath Misra Committee which had a statutory status.
The Government is sleeping over the Report despite the fact that the Supreme Court had given it two months time to come out with a view, he said.
The denial of quota was greatly agitating the Muslims and Christians, he said and demanded early decision on the issue.
Ms Brinda Karat also supported the views and demands of Mr Anwar.
